Child 5 - Henry Plott
George and Margaret Plott List of Children
Birth, Death, Last Will & Testament and Grave Location
(5) Henry Plott (October 10, 1770 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to November 1, 1837 {Estate Settlement November, 1837}) married Lydia Osborne (October 19, 1776 to November 16, 1857) on November 7, 1796. They both died in Haywood County, North Carolina. Henry’s name was not ‘Henry Isaac’. Henry had a brother named Isaac. Children: Osborn Plott married Mary Owens, George Plott married Rebekah Land, Amos Plott married Frances Gamble and Sarah Darighty, Enos Plott married Elizabeth Tritt, Jonathan Plott married Elizabeth C. Harmon, David Plott married Sarah Turner, Margaret Plott married Ezekiel Brown, Henry Plott, Jr. married Eliza Allen, John Plott married Louisa Avaline Reeves, Celinda Plott married Elias Brendle, and Martha Caroline Plott married Hugh Brown.
*As noted above, an error was made on Henry’s death year on his modern tombstone. I feel that the error was a simple innocent error of 1839 when it actually was 1837. If the numbers nine or seven are not written clearly, the respectively number can be misread. I make no disparaging remarks to those family members, who placed the marker with the year error. I commend the placement of the grave marker remembering Henry and Lydia Osborn-Plott. The following points confirm Henry’s death in 1837.
1. Found in George Plott’s N.C. Archived Estate File a Power of Attorney from Henry Plott to Elias Plott was filed. “... my truly beloved Brother Elias Plott of the County of Iredell and the State aforesaid my lawfull attorney for me ...due and owing me from the Estate of George Plott my dec'd Father.” This document was signed in 1837. “In Witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal this 21st day of August, 1837.” He signed Henry Plott without an X mark.
2. Henry Plott completed his Last Will and Testament, “I do hereby appoint my Trusty friend William Welch my sole Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me made in witness my hand & sell this 15th day of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & Thirty Seven (1837).” The codicil of his will is dated October 17, 1837. N.C., Probate Records, 1735-1970 Haywood Wills, Inventories, 1829-1846.
3. “... It being certified to us that Henry Plott has lately died and that he has left some perishable property ...Witness William Welch clerk of said court at office Nov. 6th, 1837.” The first date of the Estate Settlement of Henry’s property was on November 6, 1837. The Estate Settlement documents can be found in N.C., Haywood County, Estates 1809-1942, Henry Plott, 1837, C.R.049.508.59.
4. “...the Estate of the late Henry Plott...” was presented to the “State of N. Carolina, Haywood County, November 25th, 1837 - Agreeable to an order of a special court of said County of Haywood and after due advertisement according to law in such case provided the follow property of the estate of the late Henry Plott decd. was offered for sale and sold to the last and highest bidders on a credit of nine months (vizt.): 1. A House to Mrs. Plott Widow $5.00 …”
5. “A List of Notes and Other papers of the Estate of H. Plott dec.” I give credence to “Wm. Welch, Special Adm.”, who certified, “State of N. Carolina, Haywood County, November the 13th, 1837, I, William Welch, as Special Administrator, on the Estate of Henry Plott decd. did take into possession the following papers being all that was delivered me by The Family of the said Henry Plott decd. and recd. by me a Special Adm. of said Estate (To Wit)...”
6. The 1837 Haywood County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions recorded Henry Plott's death on page 198 of the year 1837.

7. Name Explanation
I pause here to make note that Henry’s name is NOT ‘Henry Isaac’. I don’t know who; however, someone started composing his name as Henry Isaac from 1928 to 1965 and it has gotten published into books (“The Annals of Haywood County”) and put online. This is wrong, wrong, wrong! Henry had a brother named Isaac, who was documented on the List of Children. I quote from Henry’s Last Will and Testament, “In the Name of God Amen. I Henry Plott of the county of Haywood in the State of North Carolina being very sick in body but of sound mind, memory, ...“ Like I mentioned above with George, I now mention for Henry, thank goodness Henry refers to himself with a ‘Sound mind, memory’. The man can remember his own name. Plus, on Henry’s Last Will and Testament, his signature includes a seal with no “X” mark, which means that he signed his name, “Henry Plott”. Henry Plott’s Last Will is recorded, N.C., Probate Records, 1735-1970, Haywood Wills, Inventories, 1829-1846, Image 6 through 8. Again, I comment that it is an insult not to refer to Henry as his parents named him, as he himself directed and as his siblings addressed him, Henry Plott.
Spouse, Information and Record
Lydia’s father was Christopher Osborn. Christopher acknowledged her in his Last Will and Testament; N.C., Probate Records, 1735-1970 Mecklenburg Wills, 1791-1838, Vol. E. Image 51 of 250. “... Then, I bequeath unto my well beloved daughter Lydia the sum of Twenty pounds in money or value. …” Christopher Osborn documents his wife’s name, Lydia’s mother, “... Then, I bequeath to my well beloved wife Sarah Osborn the plantation I now live on with all the working instruments …” At this time, I have not seen documented proof of Sarah’s maiden name; however, Magruder is used. If anyone has documented proof of Sarah’s maiden name, I ask that they release and share the information.

4. Enos Plott
Born in Cabarrus County, N.C. c 1802 from census records
Died in Haywood, N.C. c 1876 - Most likely buried in "... the Plott Cemetery on the low ridge behind Fairview Baptist Church where John and Harriett Winchester Plott and daughter Grace are buried." By Patrick J. Womack. He further explains, "Rowley (E.R.) Plott’s brother, Samuel S., sold the old home place (belonging first to Henry and then to Enos) to William A. Withers in 1893 but he excepted the graves of the Enos Plott family. When Will Withers sold the land to Mont Plott in Dec 1906, the deed again states “excepting the land containing the graves of the Enos Plott family”. There was further mention of them when the land was conveyed to Mont’s son John. This land is now the Plott Cemetery on the low ridge behind Fairview Baptist Church where John and Harriett Winchester Plott and daughter Grace are buried. Attached is a photo of what I am certain are the markers for Enos and his family in the foreground. Though there are no inscriptions, the graves predate all others in the cemetery as I was told growing up by my older relatives. This is the only possible location of the graves mentioned in those deeds. Having been all over that property in my younger days, about that I am certain." I want to publicly Patrick for sharing his research and findings on the location of Enos Plott and Elizabeth Tritt-Plott's graves. Thank you.

Petitions & Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions
About seven months before Henry married Lydia, he became one of the first original historical landowners of the Town of Concord, N.C. “... Monday, April the 18th, 1796 John Means, James Scott & Leonard Barberick, Commissioners of the Public Buildings and sale of Lots in the Town of Concord in this County came into Court and acknowledged the Execution of Several Deeds of Conveyance by them Signed, Sealed & delivered to the following Purchasers thereof viz: to ...sixteenth (16th) name Henry Plott Lot #5 NW Square ...” on Union Street. The history reports that forty-three (43) lots were sold to the highest bidders and that Henry Plott successfully bid “... five pounds seventeen shillings ...” and acquired lot number five. Cabarrus County, N.C., Deed Book 2, Page 70-71. About five years later, Henry sold lot number five (5) to Philip Pless “... the third Day of June in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred ...” for “... the sum of fifteen pounds ...”. Cabarrus County, N.C., Deed Book 4, Page 28-30. The original Town of Concord surveyor’s stone still stands on the northwest corner of Union Street and Corban Street. The historical marker next to the surveyor’s stone reads, “This stone is the original surveyor’s corner in the laying out the four squares of the City of Concord in 1796. This marker was placed by the Cabarrus Black Boys Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution 1936.” The Cabarrus Black Boys were a group of nine (9) young men from the local counties, who raided British movements by blackening their skin in disguise. There is no proof that Henry Plott served in the American Revolution or in the Cabarrus Black Boys. The marker just stands next to the surveyor's stone.

Date Moved to Cabarrus County
I have seen several modern written venues that report Henry moved to Haywood County in 1799 through 1805. From evidence documented by Henry himself, these years are incorrect. It is true that Henry, Lydia and their children were the first Plotts to live in Haywood County, N.C., southern Appalachian Mountain Range. However, Henry Plott recorded living in Cabarrus County on the 1800 Cabarrus County - Salisbury District, U. S. Second census, page 704; Three Free White Males Under 10 would be Osborn, George and Amos, One Free White Males 26 thru 44 would be Henry, and One Free White Females 26 thru 44 would be Lydia. After the 1800 census and, as mentioned in this report, Henry was Juror number three on the Cabarrus County Petit Court on April 17, 1805, Wednesday. In order for Henry to have qualified for the Cabarrus County Court of Pleas and Quarter Session jury duty, he would have had to still reside in Cabarrus County. Henry Plott recorded on the 1810 Haywood County, U. S. census, page 71; Four Free White Males Under 10 would be Amos, Enos, Jonathan and David, Two Free White Males 10 thru 15 would be Osborn and George, One Free White Males 26 thru 44 would be Henry, One Free White Female Under 10 would be Margaret “Peggy” and One Free White Female 26 thru 44 would be Lydia. Henry first purchased land in Haywood County from John Welch, Deed book A, Page 66, “this 12th day of March A.D. 1810.”, “sum of three hundred Dollars”, “whereon the said Plott now lives on a fork of Richland Called Dicks Creek”, “Containing by estimation one hundred acres”. Please note that the deed reveals that Henry Plott was already living on the property on March 12, 1810. Haywood County was officially formed on December 23, 1808 from the western part of Buncombe County. It is accurate to report that Henry’s family moved to live in Haywood County between 1808, the forming of Haywood County, to prior to March 12, 1810.
