The Old School Method with New Technology of Compiling Archival Level Documents is the Best Research
Over 200 years ago, George Plott, his wife Margaret and their nine children signed, filed and had recorded legal documents, which upon examination tell some of the stories of their lives. It takes time, effort and dedication to retrieve the images. These factual documents have been available for us to review, obtain, and study all this time. Some of these documents are found on this Plott Family History website or the Plott Family History Facebook group; however, remember the best place to retrieve archived documents is through the county, state or federal archives offices and museums. This report will recap these archive documents signed and authorized by George Plott, his wife Margaret and their nine children. Also, this report will disclose recording or cite location information on those documents for your retrieval and perusal.
I encourage you to research for and read the original archive documents from that specific time period, including census for accurate results. Sadly, too many family trees, websites (including websites for North Carolina and websites for our famous Plott Hounds), articles, and books have been written and published without researching and confirming state and federal archive documents for George, Margaret and their nine children. This report does just that. I understand that I might be harsh about this; however, just using the computer for web information on George and Margaret Plott is not accurate. The research books and records that we need to use are: census, land deeds, maps, petitions, last will & testaments, estate papers, deaths, marriages, pleas & quarters, probate & other courts, taxes, wars, guardianships, vintage Bibles, churches, vintage newspapers, museum archives, vintage journals, etc., from that time period. To obtain copies or access to these records will require us writing emails, writing letters, making phone calls, driving to various locations - near and far and, yes, spending money for fees, books, lodging accommodations, fuel, services, supplies, etc. Over the years, my parents, my sister, my family, and I have spent thousands of dollars and thousands of hours on genealogy research for accurate Plott line information; and, we continue to invest in our historian hobby. This report is being provided to you FREE! Please be sure to credit Cynthia Plott-Duke and Leora Loesch-Plott for information found within these pages. Creative Commons License CC-BY-NC-SA.

This compilation report will not retell and repeat errors from online sites and other venue sources; this is an archival level document based report. Also, this compilation report will not just accept family stories just because the stories have been told and repeated for years; of which, the reality is that some of the stories were composed from 1928 to 1965-ish by eager and good intentioned Plott researchers. This includes the book titled, "The Annals Of Haywood County, North Carolina, 1808-1935: Historical, Sociological, Biographical And Genealogical" by W. C. Allen, published in 1935, which has been described as “woefully inaccurate.” Stop! I hold my hand up. I did not say that I am throwing out all the family stories, legends and folklores. I understand that within the stories there are pieces of true history that have to be filtered out from presumptuous and erroneous fluff. Let me repeat, this compilation report will recap the archive documents signed and authorized by George Plott, his wife Margaret and their nine children, which are close to two hundred years old, so we can know the truest account of their lives.
Like I just mentioned above, I might come across as harsh within this report, well, remember, it’s a historical report not a novel. Also, I understand that I may ruffle feathers and that documents will be found that will alter and toss out stories that we have been told for years; however, I promise you that I will be honest and provide clarifying detail on factual sources that many of us have had questions on for years. The best and truthful response is, “With modern technology abilities to upload digital scans of archives, with dedicated efforts of various genealogy society volunteers, who catalog and transcribe documents, and with mutual cooperation, we are finding the hidden treasures of our full Plott heritage. We are excited and thrilled with each new discovery to the benefit of facts that confirm and build upon our Plott portfolio.”
As we want the truth, I ask that you join me on this Plott family journey. Also, to help achieve an accurate report, this report will be revised frequently with newly discovered documents and information contained within them. Ergo, you may want to check-in periodically for updates.
