"July 25, 1972
Dear Mr. Plott,
Your letter is most welcome. I had thought that there wasn't any Plotts that were interested enough in the family to actually do any work on the history of the family.
We, Jim and I, have been researching the family some twelve to fifteen years. Of course, what we have now is a pile of notes, bits of information, that we hoped to some day put in order. We have used Grace's book as a base to build on.
I made a copy for myself from the original that Herbert has and have helped Nannie to add to various dates of the family. ..."
"No place have we been able to find a Johannes Plott in this state prior to the Revolution. The records we have found are George Plott in Mecklenburg County in 1767 purchasing land on Dutch Buffalo Creek he also obtained two State Grants in the '80's in the same county. The 1790 census lists George as --- 3 males over 16 --3 males under 16 -- and 3 females. This would be 5 sons, 2 daughters, and he and his wife.
On March 27, 1815, George made his will leaving everything to his wife Margaret and at her death his sons, John and Elias, the executors were to divide the estate among all his sons and daughters. Our Henry was living in Haywood County at the time. As you can see, George must have been the ancestor of our Plott family and not Johannes. ..."
"It is quiet here because our children are grown and left the nest. If you would like to see all we have, including many court records, you will be welcome for it would be impossible for me to write down all that I have found and also back it up with proof. ..."
"Sincerely yours,
Vivian and Jim Woolley"
